Every practice has been there: You have a new provider on board, but you can’t bill for their services yet because their PECOS enrollment application is moving too slowly. The good news is that if you know a few insider tips, you can get your enrollment and credentialing through the process much faster.
Check out three strategies that can help your practice with quicker PECOS enrollment approvals.
1. Create a Template to Get Provider Info Up Front
If you want the PECOS enrollment process to move smoothly, you should get all of your provider’s information up front so you don’t have to go back to them again and again throughout the process. Sometimes, providers can be hard to reach and it can take time for them to get documents to you like licensure and DEA certifications.
Your best bet is to create a template that allows you to gather all of the important details from providers when they join your practice. That way, you’ll have it all at your fingertips when you log into the PECOS enrollment portal and you won’t face delays.
2. Consider Delegated Credentialing
If your staff is too bogged down to have time for credentialing and enrollment headaches, you might consider using a delegated credentialing organization. In this situation, a credentials verification organization (CVO) serves as the credentialing party.
Some health plans allow CVOs to handle primary source verifications and credential providers. You’d have to work with a pre-approved delegated credentialing firm that your health plan has vetted and verified to ensure it works smoothly. But it could save you time in the long run.
3. Respond Quickly to Requests for Additional Information
If your MAC contacts you seeking more information before they can approve your PECOS enrollment application, respond swiftly. If you don’t reply within 30 days, the MAC will reject your application and you’ll have to start the process all over again.
Your MAC won’t process your application until they have all the details they need, so even if you send in what’s missing — such as a provider signature or application fee — 15 days after the MAC requests it, you’re still 15 days behind on your approvals. Therefore, the sooner you submit the missing documents, the sooner you’ll get approved.
